The Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library is a Family Place Library.
The Family Place Library initiative focuses on the development of children birth to 5 years old by providing interactive games and activity stations, Parent/Child Workshops and storytimes that grow a love of reading.
The designation is part of a three-year Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) National Leadership Grant that supports 27 libraries in eight states.

- Preschool Storytime (3-5 years)
"Parents are the child’s first teacher and the first five years of life are critical for developing skills needed throughout life,” said LeAnn Brungardt, Youth Services Supervisor. “Parents are encouraged to wire a healthy brain by talking to, reading to, singing to, playing with and cuddling their child at home and at the library.”
