Meet the Business & Career Librarian

Hello! I’m the library’s new business and career librarian, Meredith Snepp. I’ve been with the library since 2016 and am thrilled to move into this new role. I’m taking this opportunity to introduce myself and let you know what resources I can help you with and what we have at a library. Here’s my brief interview with myself to help you get to know me a little.

What’s your background? 

I’ve lived in the Topeka practically my entire life. I went to school and college here and I commuted to Emporia State University for my master’s program. Prior to joining the library, I worked for years in retail and early childhood education. I graduated from Washburn University with my bachelor. I’ve always used our library and I was extremely excited to begin working here.

What is a business and career librarian?

I’m here to help you build your skills toolbox so you’re equipped to do what you want and need to do for work. I focus on small business owners, entrepreneurs, job seekers, people who want to start or have a non-profit, and people interested in personal or business finances. I meet with people to help them find a new opportunity or path to live their best life.

What do you do?

I work inside the library, on Red Carpet visits and on the Learn & Play Bus. I meet with people or groups, I work with my colleagues to offer business and career programs and classes, and I help people find the job and small business resources they want and need. I’ve helped people create their first resume, spoken at events and conferences, and met with local small business owners. I’m accessible!

Do you have time to read?

Not as much as I would like, but I make it a point to read every evening before bed and I love having story time with my daughter after work. Right now I’m reading more books related to my work. Lately I’ve been focusing on leadership, entrepreneurs, job seekers and how to improve these skills. Our library already has such a great collection of books on business, finance, job seeking and small business, so its easy for me to find something new to read.

What do you want people to know about you?

I’m here for you. I may be busy, but I will connect with you and find a resource to help you. I believe in our community and I’m so excited to be a part of it! On the fun side, I am a huge Doctor Who fan, love mysteries, have a weakness for Twizzlers and love sunflowers.

What color are you in a box of crayons? 

Depends on the day! Overall, I’d have to say cerulean blue. It’s been my favorite color for years. To me, it’s a strong, positive color. If they make a glitter crayon, I’m probably that too. I have lots of energy and am a pretty outgoing and cheerful person.

Meredith is the Business and Career Librarian. She loves helping job seekers, entrepreneurs, legal resource information seekers and people researching a variety of finance topics. She loves to read mysteries, historical fiction and historical mysteries. When she isn't working she loves to spend time with her family and enjoys learning new things to keep her mind fresh.
