Civic Engagement

In addition to providing access to non-partisan and researched based information, we host events and programs to inform and engage citizens with local government and local conversations. Civic enagement includes making your voice heard on issues that are important to you, and learning to listen to and join discussions with others in the community.

The library and the YWCA of Northeast Kansas host the Racial Justice Book Club. The book club meets virtually each month and features books written by Indigenous people and people of color. Although it is preferable to have read the book prior to the sessions, don't let that stop you from joining the conversation. We welcome your perspective.

We post information about upcoming elections on our website, provide voter registration forms at the customer service desk and co-host candidate forums with non-partisan groups. Monthly the library supports the League of Women Voters Topeka-Shawnee County Tuesday Topics presentations that share a variety of nonpartisan civic information.
