It’s the Journey in Walking the Kiso Road

Walking the Kiso RoadThe Kiso Road of Japan is over a thousand years old and runs through the Japanese Alps whose beauty has inspired both poets and artists. The travelers going on foot or by horse have included warlords and merchants to the common person. William Scott Wilson who has traveled the road before has written Walking the Kiso Road: A Modern-Day Exploration of Old Japan, which is about his latest trip.

This book is clearly about the journey and not the destination as Wilson writes in depth about his daily experiences on the road and in the towns where he stops. In his travel he discovers an older Japan that contrasts with the bustle of Tokyo and other cities. He not only shares his impressions but also includes history, poetry, and quotations.
