Make time for reading in the summer to let your imagination work and keep your brain from loosing a booster rocket before the school year. Keep all systems ready for launch by setting aside a specific time to read – maybe at the end of the day to unwind from outdoor fun. We’ve also got a plethora of happenings at the library including the summer art exhibit for kids Across the Universe and on the Adventuremobile throughout town. Take some time to explore summer with your library.
Sign up for Summer Reading online or through the Beanstack Tracker app so you’re ready to blast off on May 28. Tracking reading for you and the whole family is super easy. You’ll have one username and password. Track your time after reading or start the timer in the app when you sit down to read and it will record your time.
Summer Reading & Events are ready for lift off with aliens around the library to welcome you! This summer is the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing and the library is all about space. Accept our reading challenge and explore space related events for all ages. Let’s moonwalk through the highlights.
Register for the summer reading challenge and track your reading May 28 – Aug 18. Infants, toddlers, preschoolers and kids will receive a prize for every 2 hours of reading (up to 12 hours). When you complete the mission by reading 12 hours, you’ll be entered in a grand prize drawing for one of the following:
- Infants, toddlers & preschoolers (birth – 5 years old) – family pass to Kansas Children’s Discovery Center
- Kids (5 – 17 years old)– family pass to Worlds of Fun
- Adults (17 years old and up) – Topeka Civic Theatre gift certificate
There is a little overlap in ages – 5-year-olds can participate in the 5 and under challenge or the kids challenge, and 17-year-olds can participate in the kids challenge or the adult challenge. It’s your choice.
We have more than 300 events scheduled for summer for toddlers, kids, teens, families and adults. Check out the full schedule and mark your calendars for our main events below.
