Author Candice Millard visits Topeka

If you’re a history buff, you’ve likely heard of author Candice Millard. The Kansas City author has penned three books: The River of Doubt, Hero of the Empire, and Destiny of the Republic. All three are New York Times bestsellers. She has been honored with an Edgar Award, a PEN Center USA award for Research Nonfiction, the One Book – One Lincoln Award, the Ohioana Award and the Kansas Notable Book Award.

You have a chance to hear the author present on Tues, Sept 12, at 7pm, when she presents at Washburn University for the IRead program. Pick up your free tickets at the library’s Red Carpet desk while supplies last. (Limit 2 per household).

Librarian Megan Johnson counts Millard among her favorite authors and said Millard’s books are fast and easy reads. “Millard takes events and people in history that you think you know about, and tells the stories you’ve never heard. She tells you the history that you don’t learn in school,” said Johnson.
