Uncover Your Roots: The "Genealogist Is In" at the Library
Have you ever wondered about your family history or felt stuck trying to decode your DNA results? You don’t have to piece your past together alone. The library is proud to collaborate with the Topeka Genealogical Society (TGS) for our popular monthly program, The Genealogist Is In. Experienced volunteers from TGS are at the library the second Tuesday of each month 9-11am to help guide your research.
What to Expect
Whether you are just starting to build your family tree or looking for expert advice on one you've been building, these free, one-on-one genealogy and DNA consultations are tailored entirely to your goals. You can bring your current research, documents or DNA test details, and a TGS genealogist will work alongside you to find new paths forward.

New Genealogy Librarian
I'm the library's new Genealogy Librarian. I came to Topeka from the Appalachian South, where I cultivated a lifelong love of storytelling, oral history and deep-rooted community traditions. My strong background in teaching and research is useful as I happily help delve into the ancestral journeys of folks right here in Topeka and Shawnee County.
When I'm not tracing family roots and genealogical proofs, I'm an avid rugby fan, enjoy books about human strength and endurance, and I'm still trying to figure out why my Papaw was rejected multiple times from the military for "loitering."
I'm genuinely happy to meet people, so stop in and say hello.
