treehouseLearn new technology skills or improve your existing ones with Treehouse, an online education service that provides you with the tools needed to create websites, build smartphone apps and learn advanced computer techniques.

Treehouse is a series of more than 1,000 video tutorials with hundreds of practical exercises, quizzes and code challenges. The Treehouse courses are designed for beginners and advanced users, allowing anyone to start learning the latest technology.

Pick and choose from individual lessons or go through a structured course, called Learning Adventures, such as Become a Web Developer, Start a Business or Learn WordPress.

With Treehouse you can learn:

  • Web design and development
  • How to start a business
  • Android or iPhone app development
  • Markup languages such as HTML and CSS
  • Creative software such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Programming languages such as PHP, Javascript, Ruby, and Objective-C among others

Treehouse offers a members-only forum that allows you ask questions, get answers and connect with other Treehouse users.

NOTE: Some courses will require you to download software that we will not have on library computers.

 

Eligibility

Eligibility to use Treehouse

  • You must be 13 years old or older
  • You must have an active Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library card
  • Your name, library card number and email address on your request for access to Treehouse must match the information in our library cardholder database

 
Use Procedures

  • It may take up to 3 days to process your request for access to Treehouse. Once your request is processed, Treehouse will send you an email confirming creation of your account.
  • We have a limited number of accounts for Treehouse users. Accounts with limited or no activity for more than 3 months may be deactivated. Deactivated accounts retain your course progress and can be turned on again by the library at your request
