Once you are on the list, you have lifetime bragging rights. So how does having “New York Times Bestseller” on a cover influence your reading habits? Do you want to read a book with that honor more or less?
Autumn went down some rabbit holes into the land of controversies about this prestigious status. We learned legally the list is editorial content and this doesn’t require all the numbers to match up. Chris looked up the top books from each year since the list started in the 1930s and found he has a favorite publishing year (1952). We learned award-winners were more likely to populate the list early on than now. The length of the list varies over the years and the list is affected by book popularity trends like fashion.
Tune in next week where we pick-up on this topic where we left off.
