From chickens to yogurt, those attending the Mother Earth News Fair this weekend will be learning about all sorts of topics related to modern homesteading, green living, and natural health. There will be many authors at the fair, presenting talks on their areas of expertise. The Library has many books and DVD’s featuring these authors in our collection, so stop by and check a few out after you attend. You may find just what you need to create your own earth-friendly homestead.

- Tickets: A wristband (good for both days) at the gate is $30. A single day wristband pass will be $25 at the gate. Children 17 and under get in FREE

At the Mother Earth News Fair, you’ll discover a dazzling array of workshops and lectures designed to get you further down the path to independence and self-reliance. Each Mother Earth News Fair features:

Jessi Bloom
There will be numerous speaking events and workshops at the fair, and many of the presenters have written books or filmed DVD’s which are available from the Library’s collection. Here are a few highlights:
- Jessi Bloom, an award winning ecological landscape designer, is the author of Free Range Chicken Gardens and Practical Permaculture for Home Landscapes, your Community, and the Whole Earth
Eliot Coleman has written extensively on the subject of organic agriculture since 1975. His books include Four Season Harvest: Organic Vegetables From your Home Garden All Year Around and The Winter Harvest Handbook: Year-round Vegetable Production Using Deep-organic Techniques and Unheated Greenhouses. He is also contributed to the Four Season Farm Gardener’s Cookbook and is featured on the DVD Year-round Vegetable Production.

Joel Salatin
Joel Salatin calls himself a Christian libertarian environmentalist capitalist lunatic farmer. His wide-ranging topics include regenerative farming as well as cultural philosophy. His books include Folks, This Ain’t Normal: A Farmer’s Advice for Happier Hens, Healthier People, and A Better World and Everything I Want to do is Illegal. He is also a contributor on the DVD’s Food Inc, American Meat and Fresh: New Thinking about What We’re Eating.
- Daniel Chiras is an internationally renowned author and expert on green building and renewable energy. His books include The
Homeowners Guide to Renewable Energy, Green Home Improvement, Power from the Sun, The New Ecological Home, and The Solar House.
These are just a few highlights, the Library has 30 books and DVDs from 17 of the experts who will be presenting at the Mother Earth News Fair. So if you attend the Fair and find a speaker or two whose topic really interests you, be sure to check our collection for more information.
Even if we don’t have a book for DVD by that particular speaker, we’re likely to have something on that topic – whether it be aquaponic gardening or yogurt making.
