Beckoning, Karen Hardy
Sometimes, artistic limitations can foster even greater creativity; when text is minimal or absent, book artists must decide how to tell stories using different tools:
• Images can be detailed or abstract
• Materials like paper can serve as content
• The structure of the book can influence how the reader interacts with it

Racking Light, Anne Covell
By carefully considering each of these elements, book artists invite us to slow down and take a closer look. This exhibit give us the freedom to interpret each artists’ book based on our own experiences and backgrounds, rather than relying on words printed on a page.
Beyond Words: Artists’ Books will be in the main gallery from March 24 – May 21, 2017.
