Kids Learn With Music

Since children are naturally interested in music, it makes a fun learning tool. Parents and caregivers use music to calm and soothe children, to express their love and joy, and to engage and interact. Research supports the value of music for young children. Brain development is accelerated by musical experiences. Mathematical learning is improved by learning to play an instrument. But equally important is the fun and quality time of a family engaged in music.

Playing music, listening to music and moving to a beat stimulates young children and fosters a learning environment. Using music during daily routines is a valuable tool for caregivers and parents. Songs that involve action and hand gestures teach children the meaning of new words. Moving streamers and scarves to the beat, playing musical instruments, and marching elevate the experience and the fun.

Check out your favorite music on CDs or through Hoopla. Here are a few staff picks:  Moana Soundtrack, Best of Raffi, Classic Disney, and The Best of the Laurie Berkner Band. Watch us sing some of our favorite songs.

Story books are also a great way to share a love of music. Check out some staff picks.
