Great Read Alouds: Social-emotional development

Content

Fostering social-emotional development is essential to getting your child ready for kindergarten. Learning how to play with others, how to share and take turns as well as showing kindness and empathy to others will help them be successful in school. Below are books I recommend to support this learning.

Be Kind written by Pat Zietlow Miller, illustrated by Jen Hill

When a friend spills juice on her dress, Tanisha tries to figure out ways to make her feel better. Children learn that helping someone, even in small ways, can make a difference.

The Rabbit Listened written & illustrated by Cori Doerrfeld

Sometimes you don't want anyone to solve your problem. You just need someone to listen to you. The rabbit gave Taylor something he needed – someone to listen.

The World Needs More Purple People written by Kristen Bell & Benjamin Hart, illustrated by Daniel Wiseman

The world does need more purple people. It needs people who ask great questions. The world also needs more people who are kind and hard working. This book will help you become one!

Me Love to Share with Cookie Monster by Marie-Therese Miller

Cookie Monster helps children learn how to share toys, help others and be a good friend.
