A classic southern bible

I don't know how classic this cookbook is but it is definitely a bible on some really delicious dishes. What cookbook am I talking about? Well, Paula Deen's new cookbook, Southern Cooking Bible. This cookbook is big and it has more than 300 recipes for some really delicious dishes.

Of course, it is Paula Deen. So be prepared for the butter, butter and more butter in her recipes. But you know if you have ever tried any one of her recipes they are all scrumptious and they do work.

I needed to make macaroni and cheese for a potluck that I was going to one evening. I decided to try her macaroni and cheese. But in this cookbook there isn't just one recipe for macaroni and cheese. Oh no, there are three. So, I tried The Lady's Cheesy Mac. And yes it has butter in it, sour cream, cheddar cheese plus all the usual ingredients for macaroni and cheese.

I think what makes this so good is the sour cream. It just adds some tang and makes it very smooth and creamy. But there are two other macaroni and cheese recipes to try too and one is actually pretty healthy. (I know, I couldn't believe it).  I hope to try the healthy one very soon to see how good it tastes.

With the holidays coming up, this would be a great book to look at. You just know how the recipes will taste so good and they really work.  So, check out Paula Deen's Southern Cooking Bible and be sure and check out the Cooking Neighborhood too.

One other thing to add. We will be starting a new bookclub here at the library. It is called Cooking by the Book and it is scheduled for January 12, 2012 in the Anton Room from 7:00-8:00 pm.  If you love cooking and want to talk about cookbooks this is the bookclub for you. This first time we will be talking about Super Natural Everyday by Heidi Swanson. Don't worry if you have not heard of this cookbook. Karen and I will be showing you how we will be using this cookbook in a bookclub setting. So, if you are interested make plans to be at the library on January 12th 7:00-8:00 pm in the Anton Room.  We hope to see you there and Happy Cooking!!
