Another school year is just around the corner. Are you ready?
I want to share a list of high school movies that make me laugh and the cliche they epitomize the most. Do you have a fav? If you are following along, you know I lean toward the warm and fuzzy more than anything else, so this list does not include horror/noir (I still have no intention of watching Carrie) and I’ve steered clear of TV fare this time (that being said, I really loved Glee).
Cliche #1 The new kid in school

- 10 Things I Hate About You – Did you know this movie is a loose modernization of Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew?
- Mean Girls – Yep, there’s a book behind this movie and it’s a serious subject too.
- Bring It On
- Grease – Still one of the best musicals!
Cliche #2 A nerd gets a makeover

- Can’t Buy Me Love – Everyone goes through an awkward phase, even McDreamy
- Clueless
- She’s All That
- The Duff – The movie is cute, but I’d bet money the book is better.
- Spider-Man – Does it count if you owe your nerdy makeover to spider venom?
Cliche#3 The unbearable teacher/principal

- Ferris Bueller’s Day Off – Did you know this film is on the National Film Registry, who deemed it “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant”?!
- Fast Times at Ridgemont High – Sean Penn was pretty spectacular in this movie!
- Election
- The Breakfast Club
