Football withdrawals
I always get the blues this time of year because once the Superbowl happens, there is no denying that football season is officially over. How do I deal, you ask? I assuage my football withdrawals with a football movie!
IMDB is my go-to movie reference tool and I ran across their awesome list Favorite Football Films. It's got a really good roundup of some great football biographies, comedies, rom-coms, and even a documentary or two, but I'm only going to focus on my top 5 picks today:
1. The Replacements
This one is my personal fav and top pick, mostly due to Keanu Reeves, but it's a lighthearted underdog story too and it's funny. (btw - the mention of his name always takes me back to his Bill and Ted days!)
I look at you and I see two men: the man you are, and the man you ought to be. Someday those two will meet. Should make for a hell of a football player. -Jimmy McGinty
2. My All-American
3. Remember the Titans
This is a great story of how a group of boys and their coaches figure out how to be a team. And its got Denzel. 😍
4. Invincible
Its a feel-good movie about the story of how Vince Papale earned a spot with the Philadelphia Eagles from 1976-1978, with Mark Wahlberg. For a few minutes, it almost made me an Eagles fan!
5. Friday Night Lights.
Both the movie and TV show tell great stories of how devotion to football can shape a community! Based on H.G. "Buzz" Bissinger's book.
So what's your favorite football movie?
