What YA' Reading: Spooky season
Who’s ready for spooky season? ME! These are some of my favorite recent reads including one by our author from last year’s teen author visit! Let us know which of these reads you are adding to your to-be-read list.
You’re Not Supposed to Die Tonight by Kalynn Bayron
Starting off strong, let’s talk about the latest release from our incomparable author we had the opportunity to meet last year. You’re Not Supposed to Die Tonight takes on the classic genre of horror slasher films, reminiscent of Friday the 13th. Our protagonist Charity is hired to spend her summer as the “final girl” as Camp Mirror Lake. It’s a dream job. Until it becomes a nightmare job when her coworkers begin disappearing and it looks like Charity might have to fight for her life if she wants to actually live long enough to be the “final girl.”This book is another win for Bayron. It’s laugh-out-loud funny, scary and will keep you guessing until the end. This is one to read, whether you are a long-time horror lover or new to the genre.Horror Hotel by Victoria Fulton and Faith McClaren
If you can’t get enough of paranormal flavored true crime, this is the book for you! (And for me!) The story is set around a group of YouTube famous ghost hunters who have decided to spend Halloween weekend in one of L.A.’s most haunted hotels. The Ghost Gang goes into this experience expecting it to be similar to their previous romps. Spooky enough to draw an audience, but mostly fun and harmless. That is not what they get. This time they just might have gotten into something they can’t get out of. Serial killers, ghosts and a mystery that needs to be solved. This story cast a wide net of appeal. Can you solve it before the Ghost Gang?Go Hunt Me by Kelly Devos
Any one up for a locked room vampire murder mystery? This book starts at the end, and we try to put the pieces together to figure out what happened through flashbacks. Alex has dreams of going to USC and pursuing a career as a director. When that falls through, her friends band together to help her make an epic film to prove her skill and worth to the school. They manage to score a killer shooting location – the castle of Vlad the Impaler in Romania. Then Alex’s friends start disappearing one by one. Shadows are moving. Nightmares are walking. Through Alex’s flashbacks from the hospital, we learn what happened. This Blair Witch Project style of storytelling is sure to pull you in and get inside your head. Kelly Devos has produced another monster masterpiece, reminding us what seems to good to be true usually is. Read this one if you dare!Happy Spooky Reading Season!
