What YA' Reading: Barbie vibes

Barbie is back baby! This month a new and exciting Barbie movie hit theaters and she is everywhere. The marketing for the new Barbie movie has been wonderfully on point and it's been making me think of how much I LOVED Barbie as a kid. While there aren't a whole lot of YA books specifically about Barbie, there are some titles that evoke the essence of a modern Barbie girl. Check out the following titles for a books with that quintessential Barbie girl energy.

The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot

Mia is a high school freshman who just wants to pass algebra. Unfortunately life has different plans. First her mom announces she's dating Mia's algebra teacher and then her dad reveals he's the crowned prince of Genovia.

Princess Diaries is one of those beloved book series that was made into a movie in the mid 2000's, cementing its place in the hearts of teen girls (and their moms) everywhere.

Something about Mia's princess status mixed with her "It Girl" attitude evokes Barbie like nothing else.

Flip the Script by Anna Priemaza

This one is for the K-drama lovers.

Hana is a huge K-drama fan and knows all the tropes to avoid. When she lands a star role, she already knows to avoid the heartthrob fake-boyfriend, Bryan. What Hana doesn't expect is another lead actress to challenge Hana's role. Even worse, it's someone she knows all too well, her ex best friend and crush.

This book has all the overly dramatic superstardom and romantic drama storylines we used to put our Barbies through as a kid plus some K-drama flare to keep it current.

Highly Suspicious and Unfairly Cute by Talia Hibbert

Celine and Brad are ex best friends. Celine is a content creator with a large following who is obsessed with conspiracy theories. She's also still extremely mad at Brad for ditching her for the in-crowd years ago. Brad is a star football player with OCD who excels in all of his classes.

Nowadays the only thing between Celine and Brad is academic rivalry and a slew of insults. Unfortunately, they both signed up for the same survival course in the woods. They are forced to work together while trekking through the woods and work through their messy past.

This cute romance feels a bit like a Barbie and Ken backpacking adventure.
