Use ABC Mouse free with library card

parents and child using computerAs a parent, you are mindful of your young child’s access to media. This is especially relevant for children birth to 5 because it is a critical period for brain development. But in today’s world, technology is everywhere – touchscreens, phones, apps and television. Your best option is to share in your child’s experience with media. Make it a shared time together. The library can help with free access to an excellent online resource for early learning – ABC Mouse.

ABC Mouse

You can now access ABC Mouse free with your library card! It is a kid-friendly digital environment (ages 2-8). There are no pop-ups or spam to lead children away from the site. It is also compliant with Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

ABC Mouse is a research-validated digital program. The curriculum is standards-based. It has 10 academic levels based on skill or progress (not age). ABC Mouse has 850 lessons and 10,000 learning activities including games, books, puzzles and printable activities. The lessons or activities include a virtual field trip to a farm, animated music videos and educational games. Concepts vary from reading to math to science or art. It is also available in Spanish with more than 1,200 activities and books in Spanish.

The program asks participants / children to create a customizable avatar. ABC Mouse is highly engaging because of its fun images and delightful sound effects. I also like that there are more than 2,000 printable activities that include reading, math and art. ABC Mouse also has a tracking system to show your kid's progress.
