2014 College World Series

The college baseball season is coming to an end, as you may have noticed if you've bumped into the many conference tournaments that have been shown on television over the past week or so. This Friday, May 30, the 64 team playoff field starts playing in the regionals, before being widdled down to the super regionals and finally the eight team College World Series which will be played in Omaha.

Highlighting the field this year are some of the traditional powers, such as Miami, FL, Florida St., Cal State Fullerton, Rice, overall No. 1 seed Oregon St., and first time top eight seed Louisiana Lafayette. Several Big 12 teams also made it into the field, including Texas, Texas Tech, Nebraska, Oklahoma St., and Kansas.

The tournament consists of sixteen regionals with four teams that play each other in a double elimination format. The winners of those sixteen regionals advance to the super regionals and compete in a best of 3 format to see which eight teams advance to the College World Series which begin on June 14. Last year Kansas St. advanced to the super regionals before falling in the third and deciding game of their super regional to Oregon St.
