Give your students a FREE, hands-on learning experience that brings classroom lessons to life through art, science, geography, and visual storytelling.
The Alice C. Sabatini Gallery at the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library offers exhibit-based field trips designed to support standards-based learning while introducing students to the world of museums and galleries in an engaging and interactive way.

Featured Exhibits
You Are Here: Maps and the Art of Travel
September 4-November 29, 2026
Students will explore geography, culture, community, and navigation through interactive discussions and activities connected to maps and travel.
Students will:
• Build map and navigation skills
• Explore cultures and how we define “place”
• Think about how people experience and share travel
Connects to:
• Grades 3–5: Regions, movement, geography, and communities
Illusions: The Art of Seeing
December 11, 2026-March 7, 2027
Students will experience the blending of science, perception, and art.
Students will:
• Explore light, reflection, and perception
• Understand how the brain interprets what we see
• Experience how artists use optical illusions
Connects to:
• Grades 3–5 science concepts including light and perceptions
• Visual arts concepts including Optical Art, design, and observation
Transportation Funding Available
Thanks to support from the Sabatini Family Foundation, eligible Shawnee County schools may apply for transportation assistance to help cover the cost of bus travel.
- Up to $500 reimbursement per approved field trip
- Available to schools in Shawnee County
- Limited to one trip per class/grade level
- Funding is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis
- Approved schools must provide a W-9 and receive confirmation from the Alice C. Sabatini Gallery team before submitting an invoice for reimbursement
Planning Your Visit
- Recommended for grades 3-5
- Typical visit length: 60-90 minutes
- Ideal group size: 25-60 students
- Please schedule at least 2-3 weeks in advance
- Admission cost to Gallery: $0
- Date questions: you can submit a variety of dates, a general timeframe, or preferred dates and we will do our best to work with your schedule.
