Dead Lands Dead Lands

The future is bleak in The Dead Lands

Dead LandsThe world’s population has been decimated by an epidemic and a nuclear fallout, and even with the passing years survival has not gotten easier. Where St. Louis once stood is a walled city called the Sanctuary, but it is not a paradise. The walls that are meant to keep the sickness and the monsters out also keep the people trapped inside with a dictatorial leader who uses force to maintain rule. The people tolerate the awful conditions because they think they are the only survivors until a stranger arrives with a letter.

The Sanctuary’s Mayor is threatened by the stranger and the news of another possible surviving outpost in the Northwest. The mayor immediately tries to stop anyone from leaving to find the Northwest outpost, but Lewis Meriwether and Mina Clark escape with a few others to make the dangerous journey in The Dead Lands by Benjamin Percy. A dystopian novel that has added the twist of mirroring the Lewis and Clark journey from history, though these new explorers are trying to save humanity and renew civilization.
