Power and Murder in The Ways of the Dead

The Ways of the DeadA teenage girl is murdered in Washington D.C. but this is no ordinary case because she was the daughter of an important judge who is considered to be the next Supreme Court judge. The killing makes national news and puts newspaper reporter Sully Carter on the case. Three teenage boys are under suspicion, but it seems like a quick fix and Sully suspects the murder has more to do with the judge than his daughter.

Despite his bosses and the powers that be, Sully pursues the investigation his way which includes a lot of leg work mixed in with a lot of drinking. He believes he could blow this case wide open, but can he prove it? The Ways of the Dead is the debut novel by Neely Tucker, which takes place in the 1990’s when old school reporting was still a staple of the newspapers mixed in with the excitement of the investigation.
