Poems to fit every mood
One of the things I like best about poetry is that no matter how you are feeling, there is a poem that will speak to your mood.
Here are some examples:
Happy? Try Poems for a Good and Happy Life compiled by Myrna Reid Grant or perhaps you are also a bit hungry and Eat Drink and Be Merry: Poems about Food and Drink edited by Peter Washington would better suit.
Suffering from a recent breakup? Try It's Not You, It's Me: The Poetry of Breakup edited by Jerry Williams
Grief-stricken? Try Ten Poems by Say Goodbye compiled by Roger Housen or The Art of Losing: Poems of Grief and Healing edited by Kevin Young
Sleepy? Try Poems of Sleep and Dreams edited by Peter Washington
Need a Laugh? Try American Wits: An Anthology of Light Verse edited by John Hollander or The Oxford Book of Comic Verse edited by John Gross
In Love? There are so many choices, but here are a couple to try The 100 Best Love Poems of All Time edited by Leslie Pockell or Love Poems from the Everyman's Library Pocket Poems series.
