Occupied New York in The Scent of Death
It is the Revolutionary War and the British occupy New York City. Packed not only with loyalist who have fled other parts of the country and prisoners of war, the city seethes with the danger and fear from threats of war and espionage. It’s within this cauldron that Edward Savill who has just arrived from England is greeted with a dead body and a murdered man.
Edward represents the American Department and is supposed to investigate claims of British loyalists, but instead he feels uneasy about the murdered man’s investigation and decides to pursue the truth about the killing. Edward being a newcomer has no idea about the underlying loyalties and motives of those around him, though he suspects that this murder is part of something much bigger.
The Scent of Death by Andrew Taylor is a detailed historical mystery which brings alive this time period and takes on a new perspective of a city under siege and a country at war.
