Objectives
- To understand one method of creating a space in 2-D art
- Learn to mix a series of values with paint
- Develop skills working with a brush and paint
Vocabulary
- Value - The lightness or darkness of tones or colors
- Tints- a mixture of a color with white which reduces darkness
- Space -An element of art by which a sense of depth is achieved in a work of art
Supplies
- Acrylic paint
- Paint shirts
- Brushes
- Water cups
- Paper
- Pencils
- Palettes/mixing tray
- Paint mixing sticks/palette knives
Procedure
- Look at artwork posters and talk about it in vocabulary terms.
- In pencil, draw 4 layers of a land or city-scape.
- Choose one color for the first or last layer. Mix two increasingly lighter tints with white for the middle layers. Use white or leave the white paper for the last layer.
- Paint at the farthest back (the sky) to front (the part of the paper that is closest to you) starting with the lightest.

- What would you do differently next time?

- Participants should be able to use art terms.
- Participants should be able to explain how they created a sense of space in their composition.
