Kid Tested, Librarian Recommended: Sibiling adventures

There’s no one like a sibling! Any adventure is sure to be twice as fun is when there’s a sibling to share it with. Check out some of my favorite books about siblings sharing quests and working together to meet their goals.

Power of Three by Diana Wynne Jones

book cover golden horseshoeIf one sibling gives you twice the adventure, three siblings gives you three times the adventure! Eldest sister Ayna has the ability to truthfully answer any question asked of her, even when it’s about something that will happen in the future. Youngest brother Ceri can find anything that’s lost. And then there’s Gair, the middle brother, who thinks he's painfully ordinary by comparison. However, as time goes on, Gair finds that his adventurous spirit and open heart may become the very best gifts of all.

The Enchanted Castle by E. Nesbit

book cover cartoon castleThree siblings enter an enchanted garden, find a sleeping princess, and awaken her. They discover she is not quite as magical as they had thought. They also find this does not mean that there is no magic in the garden. Indeed they must find even more magic to right an ancient wrong.

From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E Frankwieler by E. L. Konigsburg

She has also decided to take her little brother Jamie with her. As Claudia and Jamie roam the halls of the museum long after everyone else has left, they are in a unique position to solve a mystery that has been baffling the grown-ups and they aren’t about to let this opportunity pass!

The Boxcar Children by Gertrude Chandler Warner

This boxcar then becomes the base for their adventures as they solve mysteries and follow quests. Soon enough they find that their greatest quest is the search for a true family and that’s exactly what they eventually find.

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

As they encounter the ups and downs of girlhood, they find themselves alternately drawn together and torn apart. But when new challenges arise, the girls find that it will take real sacrifice and love for their family to get through these hard times.
