Fun Day Trips

It's summertime and for many people that means time for traveling. I like finding places that I haven't been before, but the costs of traveling can add up quickly.

One of my favorite things to do is to find fun day trips that allow me to feel like I'm taking a trip without having to pay all of those travel costs. Here are a few of my favorite places to go.

National World War I Museum and Memorial

The National World War I Museum and Memorial is located in Kansas City, Missouri. It was opened as the Liberty Memorial Museum in 1926. However, it was designated as America's official museum dedicated to World War I in 2004 by Congress. As such, construction began on an 80,000 square foot space for the museum and the Edward Jones Research Center, which was built under the Liberty Memorial. The museum re-opened in 2006. In 2014, President Obama signed legislation that recognizes the Liberty Memorial as a national memorial.

Topeka Zoo

The zoo is home to over 250 animals and includes one of the first indoor tropical rain forests in the United Sates. It is an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, and attracts over 200,000 visitors each year.

Worlds of Fun

The park has been open since 1973 and features a total of 43 different rides.  Worlds of Fun is divided into different sections, each with attractions following a different theme: Africa, Americana, Europa, Orient, Scandinavia, and Planet Snoopy. Planet Snoopy is a portion of the park that is designed specifically for young children.

Admission to Worlds of Fun also includes admission to Oceans of Fun, which is a water park located adjacent to Worlds of Fun, making it quick and easy to go back and forth between the two.
