Forming Fiber art exhibit
Sept 9 - Nov 27, 2022
Sculptural fiber art is one of the most innovative forms of contemporary art. Coming from a background in craft, fiber arts is an increasingly complex area of visual artmaking.
Fiber art includes techniques such as stitching, weaving, papermaking and crocheting that were once used only for functional purposes like making fishing nets or constructing clothing. Modern fiber artists twist this by using traditional fiber materials in new ways or by combining contemporary materials with a traditional technique. Paper is layered to create translucent three-dimensional artwork and wool forms intricate sculptures, for instance.
As today’s artists investigate and experiment with fiber arts, they continue to add a new voice to the world of art. Explore the contemporary world of fiber arts in Forming Fiber Sept 9 - Nov 27, 2022.
