Celebrate Youth Art Month
Kindergarten through 12th grade schools present the talent of Kansas students.
In March you have the opportunity to view amazing art from Kansas K-12 students thanks to the Kansas Art Education Association's Youth Art Month (YAM) display at the library. YAM recognizes and showcases the importance of art education and the creative achievements of young people across the U.S. Every Kansas art educator may select one artwork from each school where they teach for the exhibit.
In addition to being part of the display the artwork is entered to win prizes from YAM sponsors. This year sponsors are Blick Art Materials, Amaco Brent, Bracker's Good Earth Clays, CelebratingArt.com, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, TPG Creations, Sculpey Clay, the Spencer Museum of Art, Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library, and the Wichita Art Museum.
You can vote for the People's Choice Awards in the atrium through March 21.
Kansas schools are full of talented young artists and this exhibit celebrates just a small fraction of them. Youth Art Month promotes excellence in school art programs, art education as a vital part of a child’s education, and the value of art and creativity in developing critical thinking skills.
The exhibit is on display until March 29, 2025. Two-dimensional works are in the main hall and the hallway outside the Holds Pickup Room. Three-dimensional works are in cases in the rotunda, just as you walk in the library. You are welcome to attend the Youth Art Month Celebration event that include award announcements Sat, March 29, 11am - 2:30pm.
