Celebrate Youth Art Month
Kindergarten through 12th grade schools present the talent of Kansas students.
In March you get the opportunity to view amazaing art from Kansas K-12 students thanks to the Kansas Art Education Association's Youth Art Month (YAM) display at the library. During this celebration of excellence in art education art teachers select one artwork from each school where they teach for display.
In addition to being part of the display the artwork is entered to win prizes from YAM sponsors. This year, sponsors are Blick Art Materials, Amaco Brent, Brackey's Good Earth Clays, Dixon Ticonderoga, Gelli Arts, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, TPG Creations, Sculpey Clay, Sketch for Schools, Speedball, the Spencer Museum of Art, United Art & Education, and the Wichita Art Museum.
You can vote for the People's Choice Awards in the atrium through March 18.
Kansas schools are full of talented young artists and this exhibit celebrates just a small fraction of them. Youth Art Month promotes excellence in school art programs and art material safety. Quality art education supports skills in problem solving, creativity, observation and communication.
The exhibit is on display through March 23, 2024. Two-dimensional works are in the main hall and the hallway outside the Holds Pickup Room. Three-dimensional works are in cases in the rotunda, just as you walk in the library.
