Let's Help offers both Adult Basic Education and GED prep classes. Classes include math, reading, writing, science, social studies, computers and GED preparation. In addition to a high school diploma, students can also work toward a Kansas WORKReady! Certificate.

Potential students must sign up in advance for an orientation session. Call or visit their office to confirm the next orientation date and to sign up.  Classes start every eight weeks. There is a $30 sign up fee.

Let’s Help’s business hours are 8:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mon.-Fri. (no afternoon hours on Fridays).

At the orientation, students are tested and the classes are formed based on the results of the pre-testing. Students will be placed in the classes according to their ability. Classes are scheduled in both the morning and afternoon.

Washburn Tech offers Adult Education classes several times each semester. These include GED preparation classes and English as a Second Language Classes.

Students who qualify will attend a 2 day orientation session before starting the classes.  Classes are held Monday through Friday, for 3 hours either in the morning or afternoon and run for six weeks. Evening classes are also available. To register, contact Washburn Tech to see if you qualify and to get signed up for an orientation. Orientations are scheduled 5-6 times a year. There is a $30 fee for orientation.

Washburn Tech and Let’s Help also offer the A-OK program. This program provided an opportunity for students to refresh basic skills and work toward a GED (if needed) while also taking classes at Washburn Tech to gain technical skills in preparation for a career.

The Kansas Board of Regents covers the pathway tuition cost for qualifying students without a high school diploma or GED. Financial aid is available for other students. Contact Washburn Tech for more information.

Orion Education - Topeka

Orion Education offers a program to help adults complete their high school diploma. For new students classes typically begin in August, November, January, and April. Students must complete this interest form to start the enrollment process. Enrollment is FREE for students over the age of 18 whose class has already graduated and who are Kansas residents.

Online classes are available, and many of their students work from home. If you have any questions, please give them a call.

Topeka Rescue Mission

For residents only, the Topeka Rescue Mission has volunteer tutors who can help with learning to read and other basic educational topics.

They also offer Career Readiness Training for their guests. The CaRE program is a 12-week employment program designed to help students develop and enhance life management and job skills for long-term employment. The TRM goal is to help prepare participants for employment through daily classroom instruction, mentoring and support.

Topeka Literacy Council

The Topeka Literacy Council provides free one-on-one tutoring to adults who are struggling with reading and writing. Their tutors are trained using the Laubach method.

A potential student who contacts them is given an assessment. TLC will then pair them with the appropriate tutors. The tutor and student work out the times and frequency of their tutoring sessions. Tutors experienced in teaching English as a Second Language are available.

Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library

Our collection includes GED study guides. We also have an Adult Learner collection that includes workbooks to help adults learn basic skills in reading, writing, math, science and social studies. Tutoring kits for tutors to use with reading tutoring or English as a Second Language tutoring are also available.

Our website provides access to the Learning Express Library, which includes a collection of more than 1,000 practice tests and skills tutorials for reading, writing, math, social studies, science and the GED, ACT, SAT, TOEFL and other tests. The Learning Express Library also includes the Job & Career Accelerator™, a comprehensive job search and career guidance system.
