Hal Riegger (Artist)
Tray Form
ca. 1960s
Raku-fired slab with curved up end. Overall charcoal gray with a salmon and blue glazed area on side of slab. Two small pads of clay are pressed into the side with glaze. The white glaze on this plate is a Kenzen glaze with tin oxide in it, which dates back several centuries. Most of Riegger's pieces use lead-bearing (but safe) glazes. Riegger uses traditional materials and techniques of raku and works at a lower temperature than is commonly used in the United States.
The object was made in New York, United States.
