Safety and Security Officer



DUTIES: Assists with daily safety and security operations tasks as needed. Operates security systems such as cameras, DVR’s, controlled access and incident reporting software. Continually patrols Library property and observe activity. Monitors and reacts to emergencies and activities on Library property. Operates life safety systems such as fire alarm and announcement systems. Demonstrates professional rapport in all customer interactions. Maintains proper risk management reporting, documentation and record keeping of any accidents, slips, falls, liability situations, and parking lot violations.

SCHEDULE: This part-time temporary position will typically work up to 20 hours per week on evenings and weekends. Typical hours of work will be Thursdays from 9:00am to 2:00pm, Fridays from 4:15pm to 9:15pm and Saturdays from 9:00am to 6:15pm with other days and times possible.

PAY AND BENEFITS: This is a non-benefit position with pay beginning at $12.69 per hour.

REQUIREMENTS/DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the applicant must have a High School diploma or equivalent, two years previous experience in security work in customer service type setting; or, full time college level coursework in criminal justice or law enforcement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. This position requires; the ability to walk, stand, climb stairs, bend, lift/carry up to 50 pounds, exert 30 pounds of force when pushing/pulling materials, reach, talk on the telephone, perform stationary work at a computer terminal; and basic computer knowledge. Desired qualifications include: ability to perform detailed work with accuracy, manual dexterity, good problem-solving skills, excellent customer service skills and the ability to adapt to a fast-paced work environment. A pre-and/or post-employment drug screen, criminal history record check, and physical capacity testing are required as a condition of employment.
