Public Services Specialist – Bookmobile (2 positions)

Come be a part of the library Community Services (Bookmobile) team by providing information, programming and library materials to the public through bookmobile and delivery services.

JOB DUTIES: Provides library materials to customers across Topeka and Shawnee County by safely operating library vehicles such as bookmobiles, cars, trucks, and vans. Brainstorms, builds, schedules, and presents age-appropriate programs in a variety of formats at the main library, local organizations and in elementary classrooms. Assists patrons inquiring about community information services, periodicals, databases, files, inter-library loans and other information. Sets up and maintains daily off-site bookmobile locations. Delivers materials to community partners and customer homes as needed. Plans and executes themed displays and compiles information for bibliographies and programs.

REQUIREMENTS/DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Requires two years of applicable customer service experience and a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience as determined relevant by the library. Must have a valid driver’s license with insurable driving record. Must have a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or obtain one within the first six months of hire.   This position requires bending, lifting 50 pounds, pushing materials weighing up to 100 pounds, reaching, the ability to climb stairs, talking on the telephone, ability to operate standard office equipment, bookmobile with generator, vans, cars, and trucks, wheelchair lift and stationary work at a computer. A pre-and/or post-employment drug screen, a criminal history record check, and a physical capacity testing are required as a condition of employment.

SCHEDULE:
8:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday with one evening per week and approximately one Saturday per month.

PAY & BENEFITS: Starting pay $17.80 per hour. Excellent benefits including health & dental insurance with pre-tax premiums, and a retirement plan (KPERS). Group life, disability coverage and accidental death benefits are also provided. Other optional benefits available at employee’s expense include vision, life and cancer insurance and a deferred compensation plan.
