Friends of the Library – Part-time Booktique Associate

The Booktique, operated by the Friends of the Library, has an opening for a part-time Bookstore Associate. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Review of applications will begin immediately.

POSITION: Bookstore Associate. Part-time, 15-22 hours per week including weekends.

DUTIES: Provide excellent retail service to bookstore customers. Operate a cash register and handle money accurately. Open boxes of merchandise, sort books and other merchandise, direct to specific subject categories as assigned, and provide direction in preparing items for pricing and shelving in the store. Responsible for the general “condition” of the store’s appearance in terms of organization, order, and cleanliness. Shelve books for sale, and remove books from shelves as needed.

REQUIREMENTS/DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have a High School diploma or equivalent. Applicants should possess retail sales experience and be knowledgeable about authors, books, and videos. Basic library skills are preferred. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with customers, volunteers, colleagues and supervisors is required. This position requires manual dexterity, bending, lifting/carrying at least 50 pounds, pushing/pulling materials weighing at least 25 pounds, reaching, and the ability to climb stairs, talking on the telephone and stationary work at a computer terminal.

A pre-employment drug screen, a criminal history record check, and physical capacity testing are required as a condition of employment.

COMPENSATION: $9.00 per hour. Bookstore Associates are employees of the Friends of the Library and do not receive TSCPL library benefits.
