Safety & Security Officer

Staff phototCome be part of the library team by providing Safety & Security services to customers and employees of the library by assisting library customers with problems or questions and maintaining a customer service-oriented focus.  

As the Safety & Security Officer some of the things you will do are:

  • Assist library patrons with problems or questions and help maintain a customer service-oriented focus within the security department.
  • Take an active role in daily safety and security issues.
  • Continually patrol library property to observe activity.
  • Respond to security calls or needs as quickly and safely as possible.
  • Monitor and respond to emergencies and activities on library property.
  • Operate life safety systems such as fire alarm and intercom announcement systems.
  • Maintain proper risk management, reporting, documentation, and record keeping of any accidents, liability situations, parking lot violations, etc.
  • Keep library administration informed of all incidents in a timely manner so they can make an informed decision when needed.
  • Attend all security or library meetings required.
  • Assist with the development and revision of procedures for security department.
  • Maintain prompt arrival and efficiently and dependably maintains scheduled hours.

Position Requirements/Preferences

Required:

  • High School diploma.
  • Two years of customer service experience.

Preferred:

  • Two years of experience working in security in a customer service setting.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, positive attitude and a strong service orientation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with patrons, volunteers, community partners, colleagues and supervisors.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong service orientation.
  • Ability to handle highly confidential information in a professional manner.
  • Ability to operate Microsoft Office Suite software applications.
  • Ability to plan and organize work procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with supervisors, co-workers and others.
  • Maintain positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that engenders cooperation and mutual respect.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to work scheduled hours, arrive promptly and maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Knowledge of the latest editions of Uniform Safety Codes, Fire Codes, ADA, and other related fields is preferred.

A pre and/or post-employment drug screen, criminal history record check and physical capacity testing are required as a condition of employment.

SCHEDULE: Monday and Tuesday off, Wednesday through Friday 1:00 pm – 9:15 pm, Saturday 9:00 am - 6:15 pm, and Sunday 12:00 pm – 9:15 pm.   

PAY & BENEFITS: Starting pay begins at $15.26 per hour. Can be more depending on experience and qualifications. Excellent benefits including health & dental insurance with pre-tax premiums, and a retirement plan (Kansas Public Employees Retirement System KPERS). Group life, disability coverage and accidental death benefits are also provided. Other optional benefits available at employee's expense include vision, life and cancer insurance and a deferred compensation plan.
