Courier (Part-time)

Staff PhotoCome be a part of the library maintenance team by providing courier services across Topeka & Shawnee County.

The Courier ensures the efficient and timely transportation of library materials and resources, contributing to the smooth operation of the library and enhancing service delivery to customers.

Some of the duties you will perform as the part-time Courier are:

Remote Material Retrieval

  • Safely operate Library vehicles such as cars, trucks, and vans.
  • Collect library materials from remote book drops, adhering to established schedules and safety protocols.
  • Ensure the secure and proper handling of materials during transport.
  • Maintain accurate records of collected items.

Vendor Retrieval

  • Pick up parts, supplies, and equipment from various vendors.
  • Verify the accuracy and completeness of orders.
  • Report any discrepancies or damages to relevant library staff.

Additional Courier Tasks

  • Transport materials and resources between library buildings and other service locations.
  • Bring in book donations dropped off at the library.
  • Deliver materials within the library as needed.
  • Deliver materials to TSCPL @ Work and TSCPL @ Home customers as needed.

Custodial Assistance

  • Assist custodial staff with meeting room setups.
  • Clean library vehicles such as dusting, vacuuming, and emptying trash.

Attendance

Maintain prompt arrival and efficiently and dependably maintain scheduled hours.

Position Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent. 
  • Valid driver's license and insurable driving record.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to interact professionally with library staff and vendors.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Familiarity with basic map reading and GPS navigation systems.
  • Ability to safely operate Library vehicles such as cars, trucks, and vans.
  • Ability to work scheduled hours, arrive promptly and maintain regular and reliable attendance.

A pre and/or post-employment drug screen, criminal history record check and physical capacity testing are required as a condition of employment.

SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday 8:00 am - 12:00 pm.

PAY & BENEFITS: Starting hourly rate will be in the range of $12.11 to $15.14 depending on experience and qualifications. Excellent benefits including health & dental insurance with pre-tax premiums, and a retirement plan (Kansas Public Employees Retirement System KPERS). Group life, disability coverage and accidental death benefits are also provided. Other optional benefits available at employee's expense include vision, life and cancer insurance and a deferred compensation plan.
