The movie follows Rescue Aid Society’s furry heroes, Bernard and Miss Bianca, as they locate and try to rescue a kidnapped orphan, Penny, from treasure huntress Madame Medusa and her two pet crocodiles in the swampy bayou.
Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and settle in for the movie. You can bring your snacks and drinks or buy them from vendors outside the Capitol. We’ll have fun activities before show time to keep you and the kids entertained.
“It’s a very popular community event,” said Kelli Smith, community services librarian. “We usually have 100 to 250 people attend each film. Movie on the Lawn events stir up memories of the drive-in when I was a young girl. I think that is why I enjoy coming out to see the films so much. The Kansas State Capitol grounds make a beautiful backdrop for the event too.”
Movies on the Lawn is a collaboration between the library, Downtown Topeka, Inc. and seveneightfive magazine. The Friends of the Library and the following sponsors through the Capital Business Improvement District help support this event: Clayton Financial Services,CoreFirst Bank & Trust, Cox Communications, Cumulus Broadcasting, Parrish Hotels Corporation,Security Benefit – SE2, Strathman Sales, Topeka Capital-Journal, Topeka Landscape, Westar Energy and WIBW 13.
