All Booked Up: The Civil War in Kansas

Surprise! In this edition of All Booked Up, Diana gives you a sneak peek of an upcoming author talk with Debra Goodrich Bisel. The ladies talk about what surprised Bisel as she wrote The Civil War in Kansas.

Non-historians and non-scholars will find Bisel’s book quite accessible. It’s written in conversational style and includes stories about common people’s lives as well as a few “celebs” like John Brown and Cyrus K. Holliday.

Learn how no other state’s history is so entwined with the American Civil War during Bisel’s talk on March 10 at 2:00–3:30pm in Marvin Auditorium 101C. She tells the tumultuous story of ten years of turmoil, which include the exploits of John Brown, the Lawrence and Pottawatomie Massacres and other battles and skirmishes. Make sure to schedule time to attend and learn about this important time in our state’s history from one of our community’s most engaging speakers.

Bisel’s book, The Civil War in Kansas, was published in 2012 and is her 4th book. For more Kansas history, you might enjoy her latest book is Kansas Forts and Bases. Discover more Kansas and Topeka authors in our Topeka Room (second floor).
