The 8 Wonders of Kansas with Marci Penner

Have you seen Marci Penner’s new 8 Wonders of Kansas! Guidebook? This remarkable collection of all things Kansas is based on the Kansas Sampler Foundation’s 8 Wonders of Kansas contest series.

Penner, who is the founder and current director of the Kansas Sampler Foundation, showcases the unique elements of our state by separating this guidebook into eight categories: architecture, art, commerce, cuisine, customs, geography, history, and people. Photography by Harland Schuster enriches this compilation, making it a book you’ll want to own or give as a gift.

Come to the library on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 7:00 pm, Marvin Auditorium 101BC, to hear Penner talk about the 8 Wonders of Kansas contest and her book project. Learn about the overall contest winners, find out what is involved in creating a guidebook like this one, and what Penner learned about Kansas during her travels.  Books will be available for purchase following the program.

Both the Travel Neighborhood and the Topeka Room have this and other Kansas travel guides to help you explore our great state. Come check us out!

As a Public Services Specialist, in addition to Reference work I promote the Travel, Pets, and Lawn & Garden neighborhoods, coordinate nature-themed programs for adults and families, and serve on the Big Read planning committee. My interests include exploring new travel destinations, U.S. national parks, Alaska, hiking trails in Kansas, Colorado and Arkansas, birding, sandhill cranes, monarch waystations, Kansas native plants, citizen science activities, and reading nature essays. Peter Matthiessen's Shadow Country is my all-time favorite novel.
