Shelving Assistant

DUTIES: Sort library materials using an alphabetical and /or numerical labeling system.  Remove from or return materials to shelving of varying heights throughout the Library or on bookmobiles.  Work with Library customers giving them limited assistance in finding materials and areas in the Library.  This requires both bending and stooping.  Push and pull loaded book trucks to locations throughout the Library.  Lift stacks of books both from high shelving and from the floor.  This requires the ability to lift or reach with a heavy load.  The ability to stand for extended periods of time is required.  Maintain order of shelves, including reading, shifting and straightening.

PAY AND WORK SCHEDULE:  $8.67 per hour. 18 hours per week.  Some weekend hours may be required.  This entry-level part time position does not receive benefits.

REQUIREMENTS/DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: The applicant must be at least sixteen years of age, with commensurate education.  This position requires the ability to alphabetize and maintain areas numerically.  The individual must have the ability to be flexible, possess good organizational skills, the ability to adapt to a fast-paced work environment, be detail oriented, and able to work independently. Customer service experience is a plus.  This medium work position requires bending, lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds, ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force when pushing/pulling materials, reaching, climbing stairs, talking on the telephone, basic computer knowledge and stationary work at a computer terminal.  A pre-and/or post-employment drug screen, a criminal history record check, and physical capacity testing are required as a condition of employment.
