The library provides access to a large collection of digital music through Freegal Music and Hoopla Digital. With Freegal you get three completely free songs each week or stream an entire album for seven days using Hoopla Digital. Either way, the library has your digital music needs covered.

The Basics

  • There is a weekly download limit of 3 songs. You will be able to keep track of your downloads and every song has a sample clip you can listen to before you download.
  • Each week’s limit resets at 12:01 Sunday evening.
  • The downloads on this site are all in the MP3 format. This service will work with any MP3 player, including iPod, and can be loaded into iTunes. It also works on both PCs and Macs.
  • You can download a song up to two additional times that you have download in the past two weeks. These two additional downloads do not count against your weekly download limit.
  • Be sure to check out the browsing areas, especially Artists A to Z (bottom of page) and the genre lists (menu bar)Click on see all genres to view dozens of categories
  • Once you click the download button it immediately counts as one of your weekly downloads. There is no way to cancel or override. Only click download if you want to download the item.

Instructions for First Time Users

  1. Go to the library’s Freegal Music website.
  2. Click on Log In.
  3. Enter your library card number and PIN, usually the last four digits of your telephone number.
  4. Browse or search for music.
  5. Click the plus next to the song and select Download.
  6. Save the MP3 file to your computer or device.

Instructions for Returning Users

  1. Go to the library’s Freegal Music website.
  2. Click on Log In.
  3. Enter your library card number and PIN, usually the last four digits of your telephone number.
  4. Browse or search for music.
  5. You can see the number of weekly downloads you have left in the top right corner.
  6. Click the plus next to the song and select download.
  7. Save the MP3 file to your computer or device

The Basics

  •  Hoopla provides digital movies, television programs, music, and audiobooks.
  • You can only stream Hoopla’s content on a PC or Mac, not download it.
  • You can stream or download Hoopla’s content on iOS or Android devices through the Hoopla Digital App.
  • The Hoopla app is supported by iOS devices that run iOS 6. This includes: iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad 2 and newer, and iPod Touch 4th generation and newer. The Hoopla App is also available for Android smartphones and tablets. The Hoopla Digital app is compatible with select Android devices, this includes most devices that support Android OS 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and above.
  • There are no holds lists for content. All content is available to everyone at any time.
  • You can checkout ten (10) items per month on Hoopla. View the number of items you have checked out or have remaining for the month under My Titles
  • There are no fines or fees. All content stops working at the end of its checkout period.
  • Checkout limits are as follows:
    Audiobooks:      checkout for 21 days
    Movies:              checkout for 3 days
    Music:                checkout for 7 days
    TV shows:          checkout for 21 days
  • Content for movies is currently limited to those with MPAA ratings of PG-13 and under
  • When you borrow music you get the entire album shown.
  • If a television program has more than one episode, you borrow each episode separately, not the entire season.

Stream content on your PC or MAC or get the Hoopla app for:

Follow these steps to register with Hoopla and begin enjoying your digital content!

  1. Go to the library’s Hoopla Digital’s page.
  2. Click on Sign Up
  3. Agree to the User Agreement page
  4. Enter your email address and create a password
  5. Under Choose a Library, selected Topeka & Shawnee Co. Public Library
  6. Enter your library card number and PIN (usually the last four digits of your telephone number)

Once you have registered for a Hoopla Digital account you can browse for content and play it on your PC or Mac or play and download on your iOS or Android device with the Hoopla App. Follow the instructions for returning users.

Instructions for Returning User

  1. Follow these steps to browse using your Hoopla login and stream content on your PC or MAC or stream and download to an iOS or Android device with the Hoopla App.
  2. Go to the library’s Hoopla Digital page. Sign in with your email address and password.
  3. Use the available navigation tools to search or browse for a movie, television program, audiobook, or music album.
  4. To borrow an item, click on the items image and then click or tap Borrow.
  5. Click or tap Play to listen or view the item.
  6. If you are using the Hoopla App on an iOS or Android device, tap Download to download it to your device.
