True Grit Wins! Thanks for Voting in our Big Read Poll

In 2015, everyone in the community will read and discuss the same book during a massive community read. This December, you voted – at the library, online and on Bookmobiles – for the book that would unite us in reading.

true grit coverIt was a tight contest, but True Grit emerged victorious. The novel by Charles Portis is considered a classic Western and recounts the back country adventure of a one-eyed marshal, “Rooster” Cogburn, and a spirited fourteen-year-old, Mattie Ross, as they seek to avenge the death of Mattie’s father.

Thanks to everyone who voted. The Grapes of Wrath came in second, with The Adventures of Tom Sawyer taking third. 463 votes were tallied after the two-week voting period.

Now, the library begins the process of applying for one of the National Endowment for the Arts’ most prestigious grants, The Big Read, which we’ve earned five times before. Whether we receive the grant or not, we will encourage everyone to read the same book and experience it through programs and performances that support its theme in February 2015.

Stay tuned to tscpl.org for announcements.
