Audiobooks

Digital audiobooks offer users the same quality recordings they are used to hearing on CD, but with the convenience of being able to download the sound recording as a file directly to their computer. The file can then be played back on the computer or transferred to a portable listening device so the user can listen while on the go.  Advantages of downloading audiobooks from the OverDrive collection and the Kansas State Library OneClickDigital collection are that:

  • They are free with your library card!
  • They can be downloaded at any time—even when the library is not open.
  • Users will never receive late fees—the files automatically stop working at the end of their checkout period, and/or the user can simply delete them at or before the end of the checkout period
  • Playing an audiobook file on a computer or  personal listening device like a mp3 player does not require transporting or changing CDs or cassettes, nor are there any playback issues due to a scratch or a tear.

ebooks

ebooks offer users the benefit of being able to carry several books with them while on the go, as well as the thrill of immediate access.  Advantages of downloading ebooks from the Library’s OverDrive collection are that:

  • They are free with your library card!
  • They can be downloaded at any time—even when the library is not open.
  • Users will never receive late fees—the files automatically stop working at the end of their checkout period, and/or the user can simply delete them at or before the end of the checkout period
  • Several ebooks can be loaded onto your computer, ebook reader, or mobile device at the same time—which makes carrying books with you while on the go less cumbersome.

  • Be sure to check out the browsing areas, especially Artists A to Z (bottom of page) and the genre lists (menu bar). Click on see all genres to view dozens of categories
