Spotlight on Broadway

New York City’s Mayor Bloomberg recently appeared on the CBS Morning Show to tout the city’s new interactive installation focusing on the Broadway Theater.    We can also use this wonderful new resource by looking at the installation’s companion website: Spotlight on Broadway. CBS commentator Gayle King asked Bloomberg which Broadway shows he first attended and most recently attended.   He couldn’t remember the first one, but the show he just saw was the 2013 Tony Award winner, Kinky Boots.   Guess I have a better memory than Mayor Bloomberg because I remember very well the first Broadway show I was lucky enough to see:  How to Succeed in Business without really trying.  A recent show I had the pleasure of seeing (and participating in) was Les Mis  at the Topeka Civic Theater.   If you click on the blue links in this blog, you’ll see that TSCPL has CD’s, DVDs, and sheet music or scripts from most Broadway shows. The library can bring Broadway right into your own home! Here are some more examples of new productions and revivals currently playing on Broadway:

The only Broadway show I have ever seen is Rent. I was 3 rows from the front and had to restrain myself from singing out loud along with the performers! To this day, still one of my favorites.
