Veteran's Day

Today we observe Veteran's Day. Today is the day that we take time to thank all of the men and women who have sacrificed their time, their energy, and ultimately, for many, their lives. They have spent time training to prepare for wars to defend our freedom. Today we recognize their sacrifice. As the daughter of a military veteran, this is an important day to stop and thank those who have so proudly served their country. In honor of this day, here are a just a few of the monuments in this area that stand in honor of the men and women who have served in the armed forces.

The groundbreaking took place on November 1, 1921, and the memorial was dedicated on November 11, 1926. There are numerous period artifacts, replica trenches, and two theaters inside the memorial that provide visitors with information about the war. As you walk into the facility, you can't help but be touched as you walk across a glass bridge above a field that is filled with 9,000 red poppies. Each poppy represents the deaths of 1,000 World War I combatants.
