Preschool Storytime: Old MacDonald Had a Boat

Welcome to storytime! Today I’m reading about Old MacDonald, but he has something very different on his farm today. Watch Boomer and me read Old MacDonald Had a Boat by Steve Goetz.

Parent Teaching Tip

Steve Goetz was inspired to write this book by his son’s love of tools. When you’re looking for books to read with your child choose books about topics they feel passionately about. Finding books your child will love fosters a love for reading that will carry them confidently through life.

More Fun

If you have a set of toy tools, try using them to make an interesting painting

Painting with Tools is a fun process art activity for toddlers and preschoolers to explore colors and prints.

Bang the Box is a great way to review any concept you are working on with your child. You can make it as easy or difficult as you need to by using colors, shapes, numbers, letters, opposites or rhymes.

Here’s a fun way to get those little finger muscles strengthened, coordinated and ready to hold a pencil and write. This is also an exercise of observation as kids work out which pieces fit together

Old MacDonald’s tools made a lot of different noises, especially the saw. Listen and then sing along as Blippi sings about tools and the noises the make.

Thanks for listening. I hope you stop by the library and check out these cool books about tools!

Dawn's favorite thing about being an outreach storyteller is getting young children excited about reading & learning! When she isn't out telling stories or helping you find just the right book at the library, she is reading or using what she's read to enjoy her hobbies. You may see her out with her camera taking pictures or walking her dog Honey. She also loves cooking with the fresh herbs in her garden.
