Welcome to preschool storytime with Miss Rhonda and Boomer Bear! Today we are reading Duck and Hippo in the Rainstorm by Jonathan London and Andrew Joyner.
Kindergarten Readiness Tip
It is important for children to learn to identify and correctly use terms related to location, direction and distance (e.g., up/down, here/there). The book I shared today had great examples of direction words like behind, in front, in back, on, up, out and down. You can take this a step further using a small toy and asking your child to place it in various positions like behind the book, on top of the box, etc.
The Kansas Early Learning Standards is a reference tool if you are interested in learning the standards preschool and kindergarten teachers use to determine curriculum. Please remember the standards should only be used as a guide, as everyone learns at a different pace.
Let’s get up and move our bodies to this fun song called Drip Drop Rain
After all the moving, sit back. relax and watch this video of Gene Kelly’s fancy footwork as he is singin’ and dancin’ in the rain from the 1952 movie, Singin In the Rain. (Yes, this video was filmed 69 years ago!)
Partner with the rain to make a cool painting. The folks at NutureStore explain how!
