Football is Upon Us!

football - inside huddle - resizedTraining camps are underway, and football season is just around the corner! Fortunately, between materials and programs, the library has everything you’ll need to get into the upcoming season.

Join us on Saturday August 9 from 1-3 in the Menninger Room for “Let’s Talk Football”, which will give you an opportunity to interact with Topeka’s very own Terry “The Freak” Blount. Terry will talk at length about the upcoming fantasy football season and give you his recommendations for your draft while also discussing the local teams you love, like the Chiefs, Wildcats, and Jayhawks. Bring your questions, opinions, and your love of football for a fun two hour discussion of the upcoming season.

And once you’ve filled your brain with football knowledge, you’ll have the opportunity to put that knowledge to use in the library’s fantasy football league. There are still spots open, and we welcome any and all participants. It doesn’t matter if you’ve played for years, or if you’ve never participated in a league before – you’ll be welcome in our league. There’s no buy-in, and our winner gets a prize at the end of the season. It’s an opportunity to become immersed in the NFL season, and give yourself a rooting interest outside of your favorite team. Our draft will be Thursday evening August 21 from 6:30-8:30 and registration is required. You can register by calling 580-4545 and asking for Nate, or you can send an email to  August 11 is the final date to sign up, so don’t wait!

Also, watch for Chiefs’ games on Sundays this fall in Marvin Auditorium 101C. The first one we’re going to show is the season opener against the Tennessee Titans on September 7. Come check out the Chiefs on our big screen!

Here are some football related materials in our collection to whet your appetite for that opening kickoff!
