The Kids Library begins a new chapter of service Oct. 12. As you and your children approach the new Kids Library, you’ll be greeted by a grand oak tree, complete with a digital schedule of activities for kids that day. Expect the kids to be “wowed” by the biggest version of Charlotte’s Web they’ve ever seen. Attractions like a Tyrannosaurus Rex and octopus-wrapped aquarium ensure family visits spark a desire in kids to learn and explore.
The Kids Library’s new landscape goes beyond the books on the shelves. For example, the 3D school bus pulling up to the schoolhouse teaches children to be ready for school. “There’s so much more learning that happens when kids get to interact with something. These installations will guide children as they go from learning to read to reading to learn,” said Marie Pyko, Public Services director. Installation began in late-September by Studio Displays, Pineville, N.C., which was awarded the bid for building the structures.
Opening activities begin at 9:30am Saturday, Oct. 12 in the Story Zone with donor recognition, entertaining stories, live music, tours and treats. This open house gives the community a chance to explore a new landscape for kids and honor those who helped make it happen. The day will be full of stories, music and activities sure to appeal to families.

I was upset that the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library didn’t contact me, a Topeka resident, who is also an accomplished freelance Professional Clown known as “JR Juggles” and celebrated 30 years of clowning last May 6th, to do the Grand Re-Opening of the Children’s Library! I am in the NEKLS catalog of entertainers so there is no use saying that you couldn’t find me. Take Care!
In Service and In Clownin’ Around, Jerry Loney aka “JR Juggles” the Clown <{:o)
Dear Mr. Jerry, I can deeply appreciate your frustration over the Library’s choice of Tooty and Lolly, but somebody gave you an opportunity in the early years of your career to become a professional clown as you are today. How about we give these two young adults the opportunity to break ground in these ancient profession. As a military veteran of 24 years, my advice to you–get over it! 🙂
